The History Of Bounce Houses
The first inflatable structure was designed in 1959 by John Scurlock in Shreveport, Louisiana who was experimenting with inflatable covers for a government request for proposal when he noticed his sons enjoyed jumping on the air structure.
He was an electrical engineer and liked physics and his greatest achievement was the invention of the safety air cushion that is used by fire and rescue departments to catch people jumping from buildings or heights.
His wife, Frances, started the first inflatable rental company in 1966 and in 1976 they built a custom facility for the production and rental of the products.

Their son Frank Scurlock expanded their rental concept throughout the United States under the brand names "Space Walk" and "Inflatable Zoo".

Bounce House Safety
1. Supervision of children on an inflatable must be by a competent person of at least 18 years of age. The supervisor must be in attendance at all times during the duration of the hire. If we are not supervising you are expected to appoint someone to do so and to read the below safety guidelines.
2. The supervisor must ensure that an appropriate mix of persons participate at any one time. ie, matched in weight or age. This is to ensure larger participants do not fall or injure the smaller ones
3. The supervisor should ensure all patrons are using the inflatable safely. For example but not limited to: sumersaults, No back flips, no bouncing off walls, and hitting other patrons. Feet first down the slide and only when the slide is clear of patrons.
4.Keep children clear from the back of the inflatable at all times so there is no temptation for them to touch the electric blower or detach the power supply plugs whether deliberately or accidental.
Can adults go on the bouncy castle?
Our childrens Bouncy Castles are suitable for children up to the age of 14, and will NOT withstand the weight of an adult.

Individuals with head, neck, back or other muscular skeletal injuries or disabilities, pregnant women, small infants and others who may be susceptible to injury from falls, bumps or bouncing are not encouraged to partake in bouncing on any inflatable.

How much electricity do they use?
Between 1kw & 2.5kw dependent on the bounce house. Typically they will use less than 20 units for an entire day inflated.
Each jumping castle requires its own plug point if you hire more than one castle.

Bounce House Sizes
The most common size for a bouncy castle is 12ft x 12ft.
However, the way the industry measures inflatables can be quite confusing. For example, they only take into consideration the size of the bed of the inflatable, not the area surrounding it. You will need extra space for the fan, mats, impact area, pegs, etc..

How heavy is a bouncy castle?
This is a difficult question to answer outright as every bouncy castle and inflatable is obviously a different weight depending on its size and the type inflatable - for example, our 15x11ft bouncy castle (for children) weighs approximately 58kg, whereas a 18x18ft adult bouncy castle weighs approximately 84kg.
Construction of a Bounce House
The surfaces are thick, strong PVC or vinyl and nylon, and the bouncy castle is inflated using an electric or petrol-powered blower.
The principle is one of constant leakage, meaning small punctures are not a problem - a medium-size "bouncy castle" requires a fan with a mechanical output of about two horsepower (consuming around 2 kW electrical power, allowing for the efficiency of the motor).

Modern moonwalks in the US are typically supported by inflatable columns and enclosed with netting. The netting allows for supervision as adults can see in from all sides.

Another type of home-use inflatable has evolved, with a blower pumping in air continuously. Pores in the seams and material allow air to escape as children play, while the blower continues to inflate the unit. This category has emerged as a response to parents who wish to buy an inflatable for home use.
Setting up a Bounce House

Find some level ground on which to locate the inflatable. Make sure there is enough space for it, plus some extra space around the side to allow for movement.

Make sure this land is free of dirt, debris, stones, low-hanging branches, cables, and anything else that could damage the inflatable. You will also want to check for mud and animal waste.

Unroll your bouncy castle so it is completely flat.

Attach your blower to the blower tube.

Secure the blower in place. You may need to use a strap or ropes.

Turn on the blower.

As the inflatable blows up, secure it to the ground using pegs or rings, or use sandbags when indoors.

Every inflatable has different requirements. Make sure you use enough pegs or sandbags to secure the inflatable. You may find exact requirements in the individual bouncy castle's manual.
